THE IMPORTANCE OF GRATITUDE
Gratitude is very important because we tend to overlook the things that we have and take them for granted.
Although it's mostly not on purpose, surely there were times that we only gave more appreciation to something after we lost it somehow.
Not only that but we seem to be worried and go after what we don't have yet and to some extent neglect everything that we've attained.
Understand that we as human beings are never satisfied, we're always looking for more. I'm not saying that it's wrong to aim higher, but doing that without showing appreciation for what we have today will make us live an unhappy life.
BENEFITS FROM GRATITUDE
When you start being more grateful, you can expect a more sense of inner peace and overall happiness. You have more awareness of what surrounds you and you give value to what's important to you and what has put you in the position that you're in today.
Paradoxically, you have more drive to aim higher, but this time from a perspective of "expanding what you already have" rather than "chasing what you don't have".
You can also increase self-love, in the sense that if something that you're grateful for gets taken away from you, you'll still manage to get your head up as you realize that you still have yourself and other stuff to be grateful for and you were able to show your love up until the last moment before that "something" got taken away.
And as a bonus, you may be seen as polite, educated, and likable among the people that surround you.
HOW TO BE MORE GRATEFUL
It might be more simple than you imagine, but it is a set of small exercises that can be life changers.
Grab a pen and paper, or get on the notes of any device that you possess, and start listing everything that you are grateful for. Everything from being surrounded by great people all the way to having all ten fingers.
Talk, call or text someone that you love and tell them how you are grateful for having them in your life and why. That one might make someone's whole day better.
Develop the habit of thanking when someone does something to you and when something happens to you. Notice that I do not specify if "something" is good or bad, because I believe that either way, there's some value to it.
When it's something good you have an appreciation for it, and when it's something bad you learn something from it and avoid it in future situations, basically.
